Introductions – Rant #1

8 May 2008

I’m Robert and I enjoy spending my spare time thinking about why people think life has a purpose, different viewpoints, why humans seek a higher purpose, society concepts, AI, reverse engineering, solving odd problems, and anything else interesting.

You may find the style I write in to be unusual but don’t let it scare you away from whatever point/s I’m trying to make, this is merely an artifact of my personality. For starters I am not a writer, I’m not a fan of reading fiction, and I’m dyslexic. I am also an engineer in silicon valley and tend to approach problems with an engineer’s mindset as well as respond to them in an engineer’s tone (often interpreted as cold or callous when that isn’t my intention).

I am an atheist, I do not believe in a god. I used to consider myself a hard atheist but came to the realization that beliefs and religious concepts are not what I was disliking/against. I was disliking the imaginary man in the sky myth (proof the majority population is irrational and still very primitive) and the abuse of human gullibility to perpetuate it. This isn’t to say that good can’t come from exploiting gullibility, some charities help people via the financial/volunteer support of a group of religious members; this is an example of good exploitation. In many cases these charities wouldn’t be able to help without the outlet of religion for financial recruitment.

I am not saying that most management in religious organizations have a sole intention of exploiting people. I am saying many religious leaders want to help people in the way they’ve had passed down to them via tradition in the form of theism. If a majority alternative existed they would most likely migrate towards this. Some religious leaders do exploit people either for personal or organizational benefit, this is an aspect of being human and would happen eventually in any situation.

Annnnnnnnnnnnnywaaaaaays I enjoy ranting if you couldn’t tell already.
